South Ferry

Commuter passes are available to purchase in the office or onboard the ferry from Monday to Wednesday each week. They can be used either 5 or 6 round trips in a given week. Weekly commuter passes expire on Sunday.

In order to purchase a South Ferry resident commuter pass, you must present a valid South Ferry Commuter ID Card. You can download a commuter pass application here or get one from the office.

If you are a Shelter Island resident, you can purchase resident passes from the office. There is no expiration date.

The first time you purchase a resident pass, you must provide proof of residency to qualify for either option 1 or option 2:

Option 1 - Primary Residence: Provide a valid New York State driver's license that lists a Shelter Island address as your primary residence.

Option 2 - Property Owner or Long-Term Renter: Provide a current property deed or tax bill showing ownership of property located on Shelter Island, or provide a legally binding lease agreement for a year-round rental property located on Shelter Island.

After you have established residency, you must present your used resident ticket whenever you purchase a new ticket. New tickets can be purchased every 10 days, only if 8 or more trips are used on your current ticket. If you cannot present your current used resident ticket, you must wait for 30 days to purchase another.

You can purchase multi-day ticket books onboard the ferry or in the office. They can be used in place of cash for cars or passengers and provide a discount from the normal fare. They have no expiration date.
